Aufnahmeeinrichtung für Asylbegehrende (AfA)
Die Aufnahmeeinrichtung für Asylbegehrende (AfA) auf dem Windhof in Kusel ist eine von fünf Einrichtungen des Landes Rheinland-Pfalz, in denen Asylsuchende untergebracht sind.
Die Verteilung der Asylbegehrenden vom Bund auf die Länder erfolgt nach dem "Königsteiner Schlüssel". Demnach werden dem Land Rheinland-Pfalz 4,82459 % aller Asylbewerber in Deutschland zugewiesen. Diese werden dann wiederum nach Einwohnzahl auf die Kommunen verteilt - auf den Landkreis Kusel entfallen danach 1,37% der Geflüchteten, die in Rheinland-Pfalz ankommen.
Die Aufnahmeeinrichtungen in Rheinland-Pfalz befinden sich in Bitburg, Hermeskeil, Kusel (mit der Außenstelle Hahn), Speyer und Trier. Von dort und den weiteren Aufnahmeeinrichtungen im Land werden die Asylbegehrenden verteilt.
